A wide variety of skewers and authentic grilled dishes, warm sake, and Kyoto-style appetizers prepared by our head chef.
A warm izakaya, like a community hall where everyone can gather.
Izakaya Masuya is located in the heart of Sydney, right next to the financial district that once housed the Mint and the Stock Exchange. Surrounded by historic streetscapes, it is a space that brings the joy of izakaya culture into the present day.
Carrying on the tradition of Masuya, which first opened in 1993, since 2010 we have valued creating “a relaxed space to enjoy food and drink.” It’s a place where friends gather, talk and laugh over skewers, sashimi, and sake – delivering an authentic izakaya experience.
The concept of Izakaya Masuya is to showcase seasonal ingredients and offer authentic Japanese flavors at approachable prices.
On cold days, enjoy oden with a warm cup of heated sake in hand; in summer, raise a glass with a refreshing drink.
Through our food, hospitality, and sake, we recreate the joy and warmth of Japanese izakaya culture here in Australia.
At Izakaya Masuya, we take our food and drinks seriously. Skewers and meat dishes are grilled on a custom-built rock grill with powerful heat, creating a unique smoky flavor distinct from charcoal. We especially focus on serving junmai sake warmed as atsukan, which enhances the mellow sweetness of rice and brings out a deeper taste. In addition, our head chef Yoshioka, originally from Kyoto, prepares both cold and hot appetizers and fresh sashimi, offering delicate dishes that highlight the natural character of each ingredient. By blending tradition with creative ideas, we bring you izakaya cuisine that can only be found here.
